National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) of Cook County
USTA / National Junior Tennis League is a nationwide public recreational team tennis program for boys and girls 5 to 18 years of age.
USTA / NJTL’s primary goal is to introduce
as many young people as possible to the lifetime sport of tennis, including those who might not ordinarily
participate, and keep them playing.
This program will address some of the primary needs of youth: to have fun;
to improve and learn new skills; to stay physically and mentally fit; to learn good sportsmanship; and to
experience team spirit. USTA Jr. Team Tennis, which falls under the umbrella of the NJTL program, offers
the opportunity to play organized matches against players of similar age and ability in a friendly atmosphere.
The QuickStart play format will be used for players, ages 10 and under.
John Muus will be the program director and he and Paul Muus will be the instructors.

USTA Spring Junior Team Tennis
This spring, boys and girls, ages 5-18, will have an opportunity to participate in a five week USTA Jr. Team Tennis program. This after school program will allow students to learn the game, be on a team with their peers, and have a great time!
Participants will enjoy a safe, healthful activity in a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.
Teams will be organized by matching players of similar age and ability. They will participate in one of four
Divisions: QuickStart Tennis (10 & Under, 8 & Under), the Stars Division, or the Stripes Division. Each participant will be notified as to which division he/she is in.
The QuickStart Tennis Divisions are for youth 5 to 10 years of age (Grades K – 4). This exciting new play format is designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. This format allows them to start playing almost immediately - even if they’ve never held a racquet before. Parent volunteers are needed for assistance. Students can meet in the elementary gym after school, eat a snack from home, and walk to the tennis courts with Mr. Muus.
The Stars & Stripes Divisions are designed for players who are a bit older (10-18) and at a higher skill level than the QuickStart Tennis Divisions.
Teams will have a 1 hour practice each week when skills are taught by a tennis instructor. Teams will also compete each week in a match within their age and/or skill division, or play some competitive game-type activities. Everyone who registers will play! Some racquets will be available for free use during practices and matches.
