2013 Schedule of Events

(April - September)

April 22 - May 23         USTA Jr. Team Tennis: QuickStart 8 & Under Division
Practices: Mon.,3:40 - 4:40 PM; Games: Thurs., 3:40 - 4:40 PM.  QuickStart 10 & Under Division – Practices: Tues., 3:40 – 4:40 PM, Games: Wed., 3:40 – 4:40 PM. Stars Division (ages 11 & 12) - Practices: Mon., 3:40 – 4:45 PM, Games: Thurs., 3:40 – 4:45 PM. Stripes Division (MS/HS girls) – Practices: Mon. and Wed., 5:00 – 6:30 PM.

May 18         Cook County Tennis Block Party: 10:00 AM - 1 PM; Music, fun, food and prizes for all ages; free group tennis lesson and activities at 10 AM, followed by a free lunch, summer program information session, and drawing for door prizes.

May 18         CCTA Team Challenge: 1:30 – 4:00 PM; Fun competitive team doubles play for adult 2012 CCTA members (w/ paid dues).

June 10 – July 28         Cook County Tennis Ladder Competition: Match play for the following divisions: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles. Must be current (2013) CCTA member.

June 10 – Aug. 28         Free Tennis Sessions for Beginner/Intermediate Level CCTA Members: Carl Johnson and other volunteer instructors have some fun group drills for those who want to improve their game. Mondays, 10:30 AM – Noon, and Wednesdays, 6:30 – 8:00 PM.

June 10 - Aug. 12         World Team Tennis (Adults): Intermediate to advanced (rated 3.0 and above) adult players; Mondays, 5:15 - 6:30 PM, 6:45 - 8:00 PM. Must be current (2012) CCTA member.

June 11 - July 11         USTA National Junior Tennis League: Grand Marais: QuickStart (8 & U.) Division: 9:00 - 10:00 AM, QuickStart (10 & U.) Div.: 10:00 - 11:00 AM, Tues., Wed., Thurs; Stars & Stripes Divisions: 4:30 – 6:30 PM, Tues., Wed. & Thurs. Grand Portage might have 8 morning ( 9:30 – 10:30 AM, 10:30 – Noon) sessions (dates - TBD).

June 14 – Sept. 27         Friday Fun Doubles: Beginner – Intermediate level players; 9:00 – 11:00 AM

July 5 – July 7         North Shore Federal Credit Union Classic Tennis Tournament: Fri. - Sun.: Junior (Level 6) events (Boys/Girls 18sd, 16sd, 14sd, 12sd, 10sd), Adult events (men’s 4.0 and open singles, women’s 3.5 and open singles, men’s/women’s/mixed combined 7.0 doubles, men’s/women’s/mixed open doubles, Senior (50+) men’s/mixed doubles, and men’s 70 doubles events. First match loser consolation for all events.

July 31 – Aug. 4  Fisherman’s Picnic Tennis Tournament: Senior / Masters events (Wed. & Thur.), women’s 3.5 and men’s 4.0 singles, combined 7.0 and 8.0 doubles, and Open events (Fri. afternoon – Sun.).

Aug. 1 - 2         Fisherman’s Picnic Junior Tennis Tournament (Level 6): Boys/ Girls singles and doubles events (18sd,16sd,14sd,12s,*10sd); At the public tennis courts in Grand Marais; USTA membership required. *10 & Under events will use a 60’ court and orange tennis balls.

Aug. 10         CCTA Doubles Event: 1 - 4 PM, round robin doubles play at the public tennis courts in Grand Marais; potluck supper, 5 PM.

Aug. 26          CCTA Annual Meeting/ End of Season Celebration
